Henri-Michel Garzia began
his trombone studies with his father at l’Ecole National de Musique de
Mulhouse, continuing on at the famous Conservatoire National
Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he was awarded the First
Prize in both Trombone Performance an Chamber Music.
Immediately following his studies, he became pricncipal trombone of the
Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux, and part of the contemporary ensemble
“L’itinéraire”.
In 1998, he was awarded the trophy for culture by the city of Mulhouse,
for his work with the Grand Ensemble de Cuivres d’Alsace, of which he
is both founder and president (until 2005).
Henri-Michel Garzia has recoded compact discs for the Marcophon and
Aurophon labels.
Laureate of the International Trombone Competition in Porcia, Italy, he
has given recitals and performed as soloist with orchestras in France,
Switzerland, Italy, and Morocco. He has played the world premieres of
Pierre Lantier’s Trombone Concerto, and the Concertino for trumpet and
trombone by American composer Anthony Plog.
Henri-Michel Garzia has been principal trombone of the
Sinfonieorchester Basel since 1992.
He is a very demanded specialist of the alto trombone.
